Mayor David Bing (November 24, 1943) is a retired Hall of Fame basketball player, former mayor of Detroit, and businessman.
After starring at Syracuse University, he played 12 seasons in the NBA as a guard for the Detroit Pistons, Washington Bullets, and Boston Celtics. He averaged over 20 points and six assists per game and made seven NBA All-Star appearances, winning the game’s MVP award. The Pistons celebrated his career accomplishments with the retirement of his #21 jersey. He was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and named one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players of all time.
He founded Bing Steel, a processing company that earned him the National Minority Small Business Person of the Year award. Soon the business grew into the multimillion-dollar Detroit-based conglomerate, the Bing Group, one of the largest steel companies in MI.
He entered Detroit politics as a Democrat in 2008, announcing his intentions to run for mayor in the city’s non-partisan primary to finish the term of Kwame Kilpatrick. After winning the primary, he defeated Interim Mayor Kenneth Cockrel, Jr., and was sworn in as mayor in May 2009. He was re-elected to a full term. He thus did not seek re-election in 2013. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

The God of the stadium and the paper tiger
Tumblr media
What do you think when someone says: Lebron James? You have the image of a basketball athlete, the stature of a hero, a great star of the NBA league and you are right.
This athlete is decorated with 4 championship titles. He has countless awards, including Best Player in the League, not to mention all the honors given to a world-renowned star. The man will be 40 at the end of the year. He has renewed his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. All this is well deserved.
He is also a businessman who has invested in many areas, including major European football clubs such as Liverpool and Milan. Additionally, Lebron James has shares in baseball and hockey teams.
The wealthy athlete does not forget his modest origins as an only child raised by a single mother in Akron, Ohio. Indeed, he donated $42 million to the University of Akron. This donation made it possible to offer a 4-year scholarship to more than a thousand students from low-income families. The man is a billionaire and a great philanthropist.
Furthermore, he ventures into political commentary. The adored athlete is a fervent critic of Donald Trump. He once called him a “bum” on national TV.
Lebron James will play during the next basketball regular season with his son.
This is the news that has been making headlines in recent days. Bronny James,  19 years old, was drafted as the 55th player by the Los Angeles Lakers. Reporters jumped on the news to point out that this will be the first time in NBA history that a father will play with his son on the same team.
All NBA commentators agree that Bronny did not arrive at the club where his father plays by accident. They recognize that there was a major motivator, his father. The latter had to renew his contract. To ensure they kept him, Lakers officials offered his son a contract worth nearly $8 million for 4 years. The minimum salary for a beginner in the NBA is one million per year. A beginner who has never proven himself would have had 4 million. Bronny gets double before starting his career. Remember that he was selected in the 55th place out of 58 candidates for the NBA this year.
NBA specialists point out that this nepotism is normal. The entire league is filled with people who favor their family members or close friends.
A USA Today article is titled: “Yes, Bronny James is benefiting from nepotism. So what? »  The author argues that other national leagues are full of bosses who hire their children as players or coaches, that the movie industry (Hollywood) is buckling under the weight of favoritism and cronyism.
A well-known reporter in the sports world, the African-American Stephen A. Smith goes further. He says : "We live in a country where nepotism has taken place with white folks religiously forever. We've said little to nothing about it."
For him, the fact that it is a black family that indulges in favoritism is the reason why people are complaining. For this journalist, we should not criticize James' family. On the contrary, we should congratulate Lebron who succeeds in doing what he wants thanks to his social success. The black tycoon can impose himself and no one can stop him. His wishes are our command. Let's applaud.
Lebron James is put on a pedestal. He is on the Mount Rushmore of basketball, along with Michael Jordan and a few other sacred figures. He is adored and celebrated. The devotion of reporters like Stephen A. Smith and his fans borders on fanaticism.
However, this sacredness should come with an ability to avoid favoritism. At least Lebron should have maintained a non-partisan appearance in this family matter. His millions of fans look up to him. However, in promoting rookie Bronny James, it's impossible to keep up appearances. Lebron James made sure to promote his son. " So what? » its defenders tell us.
In 1963, Malcolm X said about superstars venturing out of their field “ Show me in a White community where a comedian is a White leader, show me a White community where a singer is a White leader, or a dancer, or a trumpet player. These aren’t leaders, these are puppets and clowns that have been set up by the White community (…) and usually say exactly what (…) the White community wants to hear.”
This quote seems very appropriate to me in the case that concerns us in 2024.
Lebron James is the man who insults Donald Trump as a tramp and at the same time allows his son Bronny to pass in front of fifty young recruits. It was he who expressed his anger and wore a t-shirt saying “I can't breathe” to denounce police violence against George Floyd, the 46-year-old African-American who died under the knee of a police officer in 2020. However, it is also his son who gets double the salary, without having touched a ball in the NBA.
In American society, there is a mix among black people leadership. This is done intentionally to fill the void that true leaders have left after their assassination. I think of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. The media replaced them on the microphone with black athletes, singers and comedians. They are harmless. These artists are invited to play activists and protesters, but only until the general indignation subsides. I wonder what happened to that “I can’t breathe” t-shirt that Lebron wore four years ago? Does he know it himself? I doubt it.
The question of Lebron James' nepotism is dismissed, neglected because of the aura he enjoys in the world of basketball and beyond. He is a God of sport, a complete God. Who can criticize a God? Talking about his pettiness in the matter of hiring his son is blasphemous. How dare we criticize him when he gives millions of dollars in university scholarships and denounces police brutality? Reporters turn into security guards ready to label any criticism of God James as ingratitude and a crime against a sovereign power.
His defenders bring up the absurd argument of the “right of nepotism” since the others do it. But Malcolm X never hired his family to hold the microphone for him. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated while advocating racial equality and equal opportunity. A true leader must be of unfailing integrity to advance society. Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Cornel West, Angela Davis, WEB Du Bois and many other great leaders of the black community have never been accused of nepotism. They are neither puppets nor clowns. They were all persecuted or imprisoned for their ideas. Not Lebron James because he is an entertainer first and foremost.
Lebron James is 2 meters 06 (6 feet 8) tall but he has gotten shorter since his nepotism. He has lost his aura, his panache. We saw the other side of the coin that we weren't supposed to see. He’s a paper tiger. A stunning kite in the wind. If he finds his t-shirt “I can’t breathe”, remember his nepotism.

Re-writes #1: Space Jam 2
Every now and then I'll do re-writes of a movie or show to make it make a bit more sense, so here's one.
The original Space Jam was a Looney Toons movie which had Michael Jordan in it.  Space Jam 2 felt more like a Lebron James movie which had the Looney Toons in it, which didn’t exactly capture lightning in a bottle the same way that the original did.  So, here’s my take on what could have been.
The movie starts with Swackhammer (I think that was his name), the big bad businessman from the first one, kinda summarizing the events of the first movie from his point of view.  It’s obviously self-serving, depicting Jordan as a cold, ultimate warrior type.  At the end, he reveals that he hit on hard times since the first movie ended.  The Nerdlucks deserted him, and he has to sell off the last of his parks.  This is when it’s revealed that the buyer is another guy, let’s call him Al G. Rithm, like in the original.  Rithm holds up the deed, saying something like “Jordan, hmm?  Interesting…”
Cut to opening credits, a more accurate summary of the first movie through clips of the original.  Keep the original Space Jam theme, no remixes allowed.  The montage ends with the final play, now narrated by Bugs Bunny.  Similarly to Swackhammer, it’s self-serving, if more accurate.  As he winds up, we see that the audience he’s telling the story to is Mindy from Animaniacs.  She says her catchphrase (Okay, I love you, bye-bye!”) and toddles on her way.
Bugs complains that ever since Warner decided to “expand” Looney Toon Land, there are too many new people.  As he says this, the camera pans over to where Buster Bunny and Yakko Warner are arguing about which show is the “real” successor to the Looney Toons.  There is a brief gag where either Baby Bugs or Ace Bunny shows up and is quickly shoved out of frame by the other two.  Meanwhile in the real world, some of Rithm’s goons, let’s just assume that they’re like the ones in canon: CG monstrosities, are trying to find Michael Jordan for some unknown purpose.  They have no idea that he’s retired.  Their search for the “greatest” sets them in the direction of Lebron James instead…
A bunch of NBA stars are in town for a big charity game.  This includes James, who finds himself compared to Jordan over and over again.  He manages to keep his cool over it, but it’s clear that he doesn’t like it.  He relaxes in a rec room, where the TV is playing some old cartoon, something like Taz-Mania or Freakazoid.  Rithm’s goons ambush him there, and one of the characters on the screen watches in horror before rushing to the nearest phone.  James is towed down a wire into a high-tech Hanna-Barbera series universe, let’s say something like Jonny Quest or the Jetsons.  Before they can do anything to him, James is rescued by Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd, doing the Pulp Fiction thing again.  A frantic chase ensues, with the three being pursued through Hanna-Barbera Land and DC land.  Various characters make cameos to help or hinder them, including the gremlin from those old Bugs Bunny shorts once they get into Looney Toons Land, and in the end the three make it safely to where the other toons are.
The toon who made the phone call is in the process of explaining what happened to James to the other toons and expresses relief that he’s safe.  The older Toons get a “Here we go again” kind of expression.  That is when Rithm shows up, apologizes for his goons treating Jordan like that, and explains that he wanted “Michael Jordan” to play a game.  James explains that he’s not Jordan, but when Rithm decides to send his goons to “try again,” James says that he’s better than Jordan.  This gets Rithm’s attention.  Rithm decides he’ll take James at his word and sets the next day as game time.
The team is chosen: all the OG toons, as per canon, because they have the most experience.  This leaves the newer ones out.  James practices with the Looney Toons, and we’ll keep his “arc” of playing things too straight.  He’s not too thrilled about the team, but there’s no time for alternatives.  Meanwhile, the newer toons aren’t too thrilled about being left out again.  Buster and Yakko keep arguing over what to do about it.  The next day, the game starts, although this time the audience is all toons.  No live action, no humans.  I feel that that kinda cheapened the whole toon crossover thing.
The game starts as per canon: James keeps getting caught by the bad guys’ blatant cheating.  It doesn’t take long before the newer toons decide to get involved and stop the cheaters, getting their own montage of awesome.  Yakko and Buster make a contest of it.  It’s not enough to even things out, though; The toons are way down at the half.  The Michael B. Jordan gag shows up as in canon, but this time as the toons are chewing out Sylvester, we get a “actually, he’s with me.”  Cue Michael Jordan showing up, making an “I know the director” joke.  Jordan gives James advice, mainly “Be flexible, and remember you’re not me.”  James accepts the inevitable, and lets the toons be straight up cartoony.  This pretty much goes as per canon.
Meanwhile, the newer toons have realized something: it’s not about “succeeding” the Looney Toons, because nobody can.  The older toons have been around for almost a hundred years, and don’t show any sign of stopping.  They don’t need successors.  In the end, the newer toons realize that they just don’t want to fade into obscurity.
So, it’s the final play, and déjà vu: Ten seconds on the clock, the toons down by one point, and James has the ball.  He extends his hand, exactly as Jordan did, and the bad guys anticipated that.  What they did not anticipate is James using his long hand to “pass” the ball to his other hand and does an epic slam dunk with that.  And the toons win.  This is when the Nerdlucks show up and ask Rithm’s goons to join them, only to get turned down.  Meanwhile, Rithm declares that the game was fun, and he got his goal of broadcasting it to the universe for huge ratings—which was his goal all along.  He then states that he’ll be back, for every good movie deserves a sequel.  As he flies off in his spaceship, we see the gremlin has hitched a ride on his ship…
And so it’s denouement time.  James and Jordan say goodbye to the toons and arrive back in the real world just in time for the game.  The newer toons embrace the fact that they’re obscure, only to have the Looneys pull of a “we couldn’t have done it without you, and we’ll ask Warner about reboots for all of you.”  Now Yakko and Buster get to argue about who will have the better reboot, cue credits.

LeBron James: The King of Basketball
LeBron James is more than just a basketball player — he is an icon whose influence transcends sports. Since entering the NBA in 2003, LeBron has consistently redefined the game, becoming one of the greatest athletes in history. With his unparalleled versatility on the court, commitment to excellence, and impact off the court, LeBron’s legacy is one of dominance, leadership, and social activism.
Early Life and the Making of a Star
Born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, LeBron Raymone James was a basketball prodigy from a young age. Raised by his single mother, Gloria James, LeBron’s rise from humble beginnings to superstardom is nothing short of remarkable. His basketball talents were evident early on, as he led St. Vincent-St. Mary High School to multiple state championships and was dubbed “The Chosen One” by Sports Illustrated while still a teenager.
By the time the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him as the №1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, LeBron was already seen as the future of basketball. He entered the league with immense expectations and, remarkably, has exceeded them over his career.
Dominating the NBA
LeBron’s NBA journey has been marked by consistent greatness. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, averaging 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, and winning the Rookie of the Year award. As his career progressed, LeBron evolved into the complete player — equally adept at scoring, passing, rebounding, and defending. He’s known for his incredible basketball IQ, ability to play all five positions, and making everyone around him better.
LeBron has played for three teams in his career: the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Lakers. His versatility and leadership have led him to four NBA championships (two with the Heat in 2012 and 2013, one with the Cavaliers in 2016, and one with the Lakers in 2020). His ability to adapt and dominate in different team environments is a testament to his greatness and work ethic.
In addition to his championships, LeBron has accumulated countless accolades, including four NBA MVP awards (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), numerous All-Star appearances, and multiple All-NBA First Team selections. With over 38,000 career points (and counting), LeBron is on the verge of becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record.
The Historic 2016 Championship
Perhaps LeBron’s most iconic moment came in 2016 when he led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first-ever NBA championship. After falling behind 3–1 in the Finals to the Golden State Warriors, LeBron delivered an extraordinary performance, averaging a triple-double over the final three games and famously blocking Andre Iguodala’s shot in Game 7 — an iconic play that sealed Cleveland’s victory. This triumph was not just a championship; it was a moment of redemption and a testament to LeBron’s leadership and determination.
LeBron’s Impact Off the Court
While LeBron’s basketball legacy is secure, his impact off the court is just as significant. He has used his platform to advocate for social justice, education, and equality. In 2018, LeBron opened the I PROMISE School in his hometown of Akron, providing underprivileged students with education, mentorship, and resources. The school is a reflection of LeBron’s commitment to giving back and helping the next generation.
LeBron has also been an outspoken advocate for social justice issues, particularly regarding racial inequality, police brutality, and voting rights. He helped launch the More Than a Vote campaign in 2020, which aimed to combat voter suppression and encourage Black Americans to exercise their right to vote. In an era when athletes are increasingly expected to speak up on social issues, LeBron has embraced his role as a leader and role model.
The Business of LeBron
Beyond basketball and philanthropy, LeBron has become a savvy businessman. Through his company, SpringHill Entertainment, he has ventured into media production, creating films, documentaries, and television shows that highlight social issues and empower communities. He also co-produced the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy, in which he starred as himself — a nod to Michael Jordan’s original Space Jam.
LeBron’s business acumen extends to partnerships with major brands like Nike, with whom he signed a lifetime contract reportedly worth over $1 billion. His entrepreneurial efforts have made him one of the wealthiest athletes in the world, and in 2022, he officially became a billionaire — a rare feat for an active athlete.
The Legacy of LeBron James
As LeBron James continues his career, his legacy is already cemented as one of the greatest players in NBA history. His ability to maintain elite performance deep into his career, playing at an MVP level in his 19th and 20th seasons, is unprecedented. Yet, his legacy goes beyond the numbers and championships. LeBron has redefined what it means to be an athlete in the modern era — an era where athletes are not just competitors but activists, entrepreneurs, and global icons.
When the day comes for LeBron to retire, he will leave behind an indelible mark on the game of basketball and society as a whole. His commitment to his craft, leadership on and off the court, and tireless efforts to uplift his community make him more than just a basketball player — LeBron James is truly a King.
LeBron James has reigned as one of the most dominant athletes of his generation. His journey from a young prodigy in Akron to an NBA superstar, global icon, philanthropist, and businessman is a story of greatness, perseverance, and purpose. Whether it’s on the basketball court, in the boardroom, or in his community, LeBron continues to push boundaries and inspire millions, ensuring his legacy will endure long after his playing days are over.
LeBron James, the King of Basketball, has changed the game forever — both on and off the court.

Graham Nash & David Crosby
Musicians Graham Nash (L) and David Crosby, who were famously involved in the 1960s protest movement, support Bernie Sanders and signed their names to an endorsement letter along with fellow bandmate Neil Young.
Harry Belafonte
Entertainer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte has endorsed Bernie Sanders for president, making the announcement in a video released on "YouTube" by the campaign.
Belafonte said, "I think he represents opportunity, I think he represents a moral imperative, I think he represents a certain kind of truth that's not often evidenced in the course of politics."
Danny DeVito
Actor Danny DeVito has expressed his support for Bernie Sanders by tweeting, "Bernie Sanders ... you're our only hope Obi-Wan Kenobi."
Dave Matthews
Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Dave Matthews, who is also a Farm Aid board member, supported Barack Obama in the past.
Matthews told Rolling Stone, "When I hear someone like Bernie Sanders talking, I think there's a hope."
Will Ferrell
While Will Ferrell may have played George W. Bush on "Saturday Night Live," he leans Democratic politically.
He was, until very recently, on Bernie Sanders' celebrity endorsements list on the campaign website. However, on Feb. 20, 2016, Hillary Clinton tweeted a video of Ferrell encouraging people to vote with the message, "Will Ferrell has a message for you, Nevada: Caucus for Hillary today at 11 AM. Your location: hillaryclinton.com/nevada."
